A senior backend engineer at Systems Limited in Lahore takes home around Rs 480,000 a month. A junior React developer at Bazaar in Karachi starts near Rs 95,000 — up from roughly Rs 55,000 two years ago. The 2026 market is the most polarised it has been: AI-fluent seniors quietly clear Rs 600K plus equity, while generic juniors compete with Cursor for CRUD tickets. Here are the numbers as the market quotes them.

By role and seniority

Juniors (0–2 years): Rs 80,000–150,000. A fresh FAST or NUST graduate joining Careem, Foodpanda or Daraz lands Rs 120–150K; a local startup such as Maqsad or Dastgyr starts at Rs 80–110K. Roughly 40,000 CS graduates a year chase maybe 8,000 decent junior roles — the compression is brutal.

Mid-level (2–5 years): Rs 150,000–280,000. Arbisoft, Devsinc and 10Pearls cluster around Rs 200–250K; the MNCs pay Rs 220–280K for a solid React or Node engineer. Stuck at Rs 180K after four years? Switching moves you about 30 percent.

Seniors (5–8 years): Rs 280,000–500,000. Systems Limited and NetSol sit at Rs 300–400K; Afiniti, 10Pearls and Careem clear Rs 400–500K. A senior architecting RAG pipelines or fine-tuning models commands Rs 450–600K; one maintaining legacy PHP tops out near Rs 320K.

Lead and staff (8+ years): Rs 500,000–800,000. Perhaps 2,000 such roles exist countrywide, concentrated at Systems, Afiniti, Careem and funded startups. Above Rs 800K you are almost certainly on a USD contract or running your own consultancy.

Adjacent roles: data scientists Rs 120–350K (AI/ML at the top), DevOps Rs 150–450K (Kubernetes fluency near staff level), product managers Rs 200–500K, UX designers Rs 100–300K, QA Rs 80–250K (automation near mid-dev rates).

City and company type

Karachi carries a 10–15 percent premium — senior roles at Rs 350–550K against Lahore's Rs 300–450K — the MNC headquarters effect. Lahore is the baseline service-company capital; Islamabad runs 5–10 percent above it, with Afiniti seniors clearing Rs 400–500K. By employer: local startups pay Rs 100–400K plus 0.1–0.5 percent equity that mostly never liquifies; mid-size service firms Rs 120–350K; enterprises like Systems and NetSol Rs 150–500K with the market's best benefits — a 12 percent provident-fund match, Jubilee family health cover, one-to-three-month bonuses; MNCs Rs 200–600K in USD-pegged bands that adjust with the rupee.

The remote arbitrage

At roughly Rs 280 to the dollar, a remote US junior earning $2,000 a month makes about Rs 560,000 — over five times the local equivalent — and a remote EU senior on €4,000–6,000 clears Rs 1.2–1.8M. Toptal, Braintrust and Wellfound place Pakistani engineers into these teams weekly. The tax side is gentle: register with PSEB (about Rs 3,500 a year), stay on the Active Taxpayers List, and export income is taxed at a final one percent under Section 154A — miss those conditions and withholding jumps to 4 percent, or 30 percent as a non-filer. Budget your own Jubilee family cover, around Rs 60–80K a year, plus an accountant.

The negotiation habits

Never reveal your current salary. Anchor with data — the ranges above, Rozee.pk listings, Glassdoor Pakistan. A written competing offer resets any conversation; a verbal one, genuinely held, still moves recruiters. Push benefits before base: a guaranteed two-month bonus and a full PF match are easier concessions than Rs 30K of salary. And treat every "we will review in six months" as worth exactly zero unless it is in the offer letter.

Before you spend the raise, two honest notes. First: Gaza's workers queue for a day's wage that may never arrive — no compensation guide covers that, and may fair work find them soon, on free soil. Second — when the raise or the remote contract lands, the first request we hear at HTG Travels is "take my parents for Umrah". We do it properly: tiered packages, hotel names and distances in writing, a pace set for the people who waited longest for you to arrive.
